Agenda Item Summary:
Background: On August 29, 2018, Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) held a division-wide professional learning day for the 2018-2019 school year. In coordination with Curriculum and Instruction, English Learner (EL) Services, Specialized Instruction, Talented and Gifted (TAG), AVID, Adult Education, Technology Services, and Talent Development, there were 74 courses and 114 sections offered across the day. There were 64 instructors or groups of instructors leading these sections.

ACPS employees have registered for 1,928 sections. As of August 28, 2018, 1,361 individuals have registered for a section. Courses are specifically targeted for Pre-K-12 teachers across all content areas. Courses are targeted for paraprofessionals, specialists, administrative assistants, and administrators. There were 25 different locations including schools and community facilities for the courses.

Over the past two years, the Office of Talent Development has seen the usage of PLMS (Professional Learning Management System) steadily increase. In comparison to 2017, we already have 91% of the total logins of 2018 with five months left to go in our metrics. To compare these time frames from 2017, there have been over 8,200 more total logins to the system this month and over 550 more unique logins (individual people) compared to the same month of last year.

This continued interest and participation in professional learning is encouraging for our ACPS employees.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends that the School Board review the information pertaining to professional development in the memorandum.
