Agenda Item Summary: OPX will be facilitating a second vision session on September 20, 2018, in alignment with the recommended next steps from the previous vision session. The second Vision Session will allow the two bodies to further explore and define the Task Force Recommendations, develop supplemental tactics and define the specific areas that they will address to achieve overall strategic intent. The two bodies will be asked to apply the Decision Criteria to the Task Force Recommendations and other future initiatives and tactics.
Background: The first of the Ad-Hoc Joint City-Schools Facilities Investment Task Force recommendations presented to the School Board and City Council in January 2018, recommends leadership develop a “targeted new reality” to establish a common framework for future collaboration between ACPS and the City. On May 19, 2018, the School Board and City Council engaged in a vision session to begin defining these objectives. The Washington DC-based planning and architectural firm of OPX, PLLC, (OPX) served as the facilitator for the vision session. Next steps from the first vision session indicated that a second vision should be held to apply decision criteria.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends that the School Board review the attached documents in preparation for the vision session being held on September 20, 2018, and continue participating in and supporting these collaborative efforts.
