As part of the Board’s continuing policy review, we recommend that it approve the proposed policy and regulatory revisions below. (Hyperlinks to the current policies and regulation are included for reference.)
Policy GBE: Staff Health
Last revised in 2015, Policy GBE has been updated to supplement its discussion of the health screenings required prior to employment with guidelines for staff members who are ill or who require medical attention at work. *Orange text reflects feedback from the Education Association of Alexandria (EAA) since the 6/6/19 Board Meeting.
Policy JHC: Student Health Services and Requirements
Last revised in 2015, Policy JHC has been updated to reflect current school division practices regarding the employment of health care professionals, contagious disease exclusion, and sexual and reproductive health.
Policy JHCB: Student Immunizations
Regulation JHCB-R: ACPS Health Requirements
Last revised in 2015, Policy JHCB and Regulation JHCB-R have been updated to reflect the amendment of Va. Code § 32.1-46.A.4, which changes the age for receiving the Tdap immunization booster from 10 to 11 years old.

Background:

The Code of Virginia § 22.1-253.13:7 and Policy BF require the School Board to maintain and follow up-to-date policies, and that all policies shall be reviewed at least every five years and revised as needed.

Recommendation:
|
The Superintendent recommends that the School Board approve the attached revisions to Policies GBE, JHC and JHCB and Regulation JHCB-R.
