As part of the Board’s continuing policy review, the Board reviewed the newly proposed Policy GDP/IICAB and the revisions to Regulation GCBD-R at its January 25, 2018 Board Meeting. (Hyperlinks to the current Policy GCBD and Regulation GCBD-R are included for reference.)
New Draft Policy GDP/IICAB – Use of Private Vehicles for Transporting Students
This newly proposed policy details the restrictions on staff transporting students in privately owned vehicles. Feedback from the January 25, 2018 School Board Meeting appears in orange, and a sample DMV Compliance Summary is attached for reference.
Regulation GCBD-R – Staff Leaves and Absences Regulations
This regulation has been updated to provide employees with guidelines for taking leave for religious observation. Although there are no revisions to Policy GCBD: Staff Leaves and Absences, the policy is included for reference, as it aligns with the regulation. Revisions presented at the January 25, 2015 School Board Meeting to the regulation appear in blue.

Background:
|
The Code of Virginia § 22.1-253.13:7 requires that each local school board shall maintain and follow up-to-date policies, and that all policies shall be reviewed at least every five years and revised as needed. In addition, the Alexandria City School Board’s Policy BF provides that policies will be reviewed at least every three years and revised as needed.

Recommendation:

The Superintendent recommends that the School Board approve draft Policy GDP/IICAB and Regulation GCBD-R.
