Agenda Item Summary: The most recent BAC/BFAAC meeting focused primarily on implementation of the recommendations in the Ad Hoc Joint City/Schools Facilities Investment Task Force Final Report. Following the meeting, the advisory committees composed their second joint memo to Council and the School Board. This one is regarding the Task Force Final Report.
Background: To advance cooperation between the City of Alexandria and Alexandria City Public Schools, representatives from the Council’s Budget and Fiscal Affairs Advisory Committee (BFAAC), the School Board’s Budget Advisory Committee (BAC), City Staff and Schools Staff began meeting on key fiscal topics in August 2017. Discussions have covered the annual budget process and City and ACPS capital projects. These meetings have proven informative and helpful to all that were present and represent a critical step towards increased collaboration.

In September 2017, BAC and BFAAC wrote a joint memo to City Council and the School Board on the budget process and general City/Schools Cooperation.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends that the School Board reviews the joint BAC/BFAAC memo and considers their joint recommendations going forward.
