Agenda Item Summary: As the division undergoes the process of developing an updated strategic plan to reach 2025, review and potential refinement of the division’s mission, vision and core values will help guide the plan’s development.
Background: Vision, mission, and core values serve as the foundation upon which strategic plans are built. Through this work session, and as guided by the expertise of the division’s partner in strategic planning (FourPoint Education Partners), the Board will be asked to review and provide feedback on draft division vision, mission, and core values based upon Board feedback received in the September 9 Work Session. The vision, mission, and core values established by the Board will serve as the foundation from which all future strategic planning work will build.

In addition, the Board will have a facilitated discussion regarding Board governance through the attached case study, “It Takes a City: Building a High Performance School District in Houston.”
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends the School Board review the attached materials in advance of the September 19th Board Work Session.
