Through the work of the Strategic Planning Committee over the past year, a five-year strategic plan has been drafted to serve as the roadmap for ACPS through 2025. The draft plan was presented to the School Board across two sessions on May 22nd and May 29th. School Board and public feedback was sought over the past month. A final round of stakeholder input was sought through multiple outreach efforts to all ACPS staff, families, the Strategic Planning Committee, the Unified Planning Committee, and the community. Overall feedback received on the strategic plan was positive. Additional feedback themes have been addressed through revisions, which have been highlighted in yellow within the attached plan. Additionally, attached to this memo is a document with all feedback received and a discrete list of the deletions and additions made within the plan.

Background:

The Code of Virginia § 22.1-253.13:6 provides that each local school board shall adopt a division-wide comprehensive, unified, long-range plan based on data collection, an analysis of the data, and how the data will be utilized to improve classroom instruction and student achievement. The plan is to be developed with staff and community involvement and is to include, or be consistent with, all other division-wide plans required by state and federal laws and regulations. Each local school board shall review the plan biennially and adopt any necessary revisions. ACPS Board policy, AF - Comprehensive Plan, implements the Code of Virginia’s requirement.
The Strategic Planning Committee, over the course of the past year, has drafted a five-year strategic plan to serve as the roadmap for ACPS through 2025. The draft plan was presented to the School Board across two sessions on May 22nd and May 29th, after which a final round of stakeholder input was sought through multiple outreach efforts to all ACPS staff, families, the Strategic Planning Committee, the Alexandria City Unified Planning Committee, and the community. Feedback was received from 32 stakeholders and is attached to this memo. Overall feedback received on the strategic plan was positive. Feedback themes included topics around racial equity, unified planning committee commitments, strategies around SEAL, accessibility of the document, and a desire to understand next steps after plan adoption. These themes have been addressed through revisions, which have been highlighted in yellow within the attached plan. Additionally, attached to this memo is a discrete list of the deletions and additions made within the plan.

Recommendation:

The Superintendent recommends the School Board review the attached Equity for All 2025 Revised Strategic Plan for review and consider for adoption.
