On September 21, 2020, Alexandria City Public Schools received a donation of 300 Kajeets, at a value of $43,000, from Amazon to support ACPS students in need of technology access. A Kajeet is a type of filtered mobile hotspot device that provides students with a safe, simple wireless connection to the internet from their home location, via their student Chromebook, tablet or alternative device. In accordance with ACPS Policy KH and Regulation KH-R, any donation over $2,500 requires school board approval. The donation must meet the established standards of acceptance requirements.

Background:
|
With the announcement of the ACPS Virtual PLUS+ model of instruction, the need for internet access continues to be essential for our students to be successful in this virtual learning environment. This need is significant due to the increased number of students being required to use technology at home. Students in grades 3-12 are using Chromebooks and Pre-K-2 students are using tablets to connect with their teachers and access learning materials. To help address any lack of student internet access, Amazon’s donation will support the provision of approximately 300 Kajeets.
