Agenda Item Summary: As part of the Board’s continuing policy review, we recommend that it approve proposed adjustments to Regulations BBBB-R and BBBB-R2, which outline the Student Representative to the School Board program. (Hyperlinks to the current policy and regulations are included for reference.)

Policy BBBB: Student Representatives to the School Board
BBBB-R: Student Representatives to the School Board Regulations and Application
BBBB-R2: Middle School Student Representatives Regulations and Application

The proposed adjustment to Regulation BBBB-R would allow the School Board flexibility in selecting the two most qualified candidates from among the rising juniors and seniors who have applied. Currently, the Board is required to select one rising junior and one rising senior.

The proposed adjustment to Regulation BBBB-R2 would allow a School Board Member to participate on the Middle School Student Representative interview panel in the event that another panel member was unable to participate in the interview process. This would allow the interview process to proceed in the event of scheduling conflicts.
Background: The Code of Virginia § 22.1-253.13:7 and Policy BF require the School Board to maintain and follow up-to-date policies, and that all policies shall be reviewed at least every five years and revised as needed.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends that the School Board approve the attached revisions to Regulations BBBB-R and BBBB-R2.
