Agenda Item Summary: ACPS Names Naomi L. Brooks’ Tiffany Lee-Clarke as the 2023-24 ACPS Teacher of the Year Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) proudly recognizes its Teacher of the Year for 2024. This year’s Teacher of the Year is Tiffany Lee-Clarke, a third-grade teacher at Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School (Naomi L. Brooks). To the students and staff at Naomi L. Brooks, Lee-Clarke is known as “Mrs. TLC,” which stands for “tender, loving and a huge caretaker.” Clarke says it is up to her to teach, love her job and display compassion for the next generation. Lee-Clarke consistently demonstrates high ideals, professionalism, knowledge and the ability to help her students become the best they can be. She understands the individual needs of students, encourages their talents and fosters their self-esteem. As a cancer survivor, Lee-Clarke displays courage and instills in her students a “can-do attitude.” She has been a teacher for 30 years. Lee-Clarke possesses a unique ability to engage students and create a positive learning environment. Her hands-on learning style of teaching facilitates a deeper understanding of the subject matter that is being gained by her students. Lee-Clarke’s use of project-based learning engages students by making topics relatable, enabling students to feel confident in their new knowledge. Lee-Clarke encourages those around her and even serves as a mentor to new and incoming teachers at her school. She is the embodiment of a great teacher as she is an individual who encourages, uplifts and inspires.
