Agenda Item Summary:
In Fiscal Year 2019, the School Board and City Council approved $4.6 million in the Capital Improvement Project budget for Phase II of the Ferdinand T. Day project; additional funding of $496,741 has been requested in FY2021 to address escalation costs associated with the project. Phase II of the project is the construction of an elevated gymnasium.
Background:
ACPS opened Ferdinand T. Day Elementary School in August 2018. During Phase I of the project, an existing office building was retrofitted into a dynamic education space for 650 students. Phase II includes an addition of a gym to use for physical education and as an auditorium. This space was not part of the first phase of the design due to the height and space limitations of the original facility.
Recommendation:
The Superintendent recommends that the School Board review the update on Phase II of the Ferdinand T. Day project (elevated gymnasium).
