Agenda Item Summary: In May 2019 the Patrick Henry, Francis C. Hammond, George Washington and Jefferson-Houston school principals selected three Middle School Student Representative finalists each from among the applications received at their schools. An interview panel consisting of each principal and the (high school) Student Representatives to the School Board then convened to interview the recommended applicants. Based on the quality of their applications and subsequent interviews, the panel hereby nominates each of the following students for appointment by the School Board to represent their school:
• Caleb Bonga, Patrick Henry School
• Taylor Frazier, Francis C. Hammond Middle School
• Lilly Wagner, George Washington Middle School
• Giselle Hughes, Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 School
Background: In April 2019, the School Board revised Policy BBBB to create four non-voting Middle School Student Representative positions. The students will serve in an advisory capacity to the high school Student Representatives to the School Board, and do not participate in School Board Meetings. Regulation BBBB-R2, created in May 2019, outlines this new program. The Middle School Student Representative positions are open to rising 7th and 8th grade students from each of the four middle schools and serve an annual term from July 1 through June 30th.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends that the School Board appoint Caleb Bonga, Taylor Frazier, Lilly Wagner and Giselle Hughes as Middle School Representatives to the School Board.
