Agenda Item Summary: Policies for Review:

GBG – Staff Participation in Political Activities (This is a minor policy revision to clarify that candidates for School Board may not promote their campaign on ACPS media platforms, while still allowing sitting School Board members to appear on those media platforms in their official capacity during the election season.)

GBM – Licensed Staff Grievances (Last updated in 2002, this policy was revised to reflect current VSBA and State Board of Education language, and ACPS practice.)

GBM-R – Licensed Staff Grievances Regulation (Revised to pull regulatory language from the current policy, last updated in 2002, and create a separate, updated regulation that reflects VSBA and State Board of Education language, and ACPS practice.)
Background: The Code of Virginia § 22.1-253.13:7 requires that each local school board shall maintain and follow up-to-date policies, and that all policies shall be reviewed at least every five years and revised as needed. In addition, the Alexandria City School Board’s Policy BF provides that policies will be reviewed at least every three years and revised as needed.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends that the Board review the attached policies.
