Agenda Item Summary: Due to the shutdown of schools in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Athletic Hall of Fame (AHOF) Advisory Committee was unable to complete the selection of athletes for the 2020 Athletic Hall of Fame. The unfinished selection process has been added to the 2020-2021 Scope of Work. The committee will also complete the selection process of athletes for induction in 2021. During the ongoing pandemic, it is unlikely that the committee will be able to recognize selected athletes until a later time. The proposed scope of work for the Athletic Hall of Fame committee for 2020-2021 is outlined below.
•Continue the selection process of nominees for induction into the 2020 AHOF
•Determine the best and safest way to recognize 2020 Inductees duringthe time ofCOVID-19, if at all, or plan for a later recognition ceremony.
•Solicit nominations from the committee, staff, students, alumni and the larger community for new inductees to the 2021 Athletic Hall of Fame.
•Select a group of nominees recommended for inclusion in the AHOFto the School Board for approval.
•Discuss and plan the Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for 2020 and 2021 inductees.

The ACPS Athletic Hall of Fame Advisory Committee will endeavor to accomplish the following goals:
•Refine the criteria for nominee selection to ensure a Hall of Fame class that reflects the contributions of athletes from all of ACPS’ current and former high schools, both male and female, and across a wide variety of sports.
•Refine and continuously improve a communication plan that will maximize the number of community members aware of the Hall of Fame and solicit the greatest number of nominations.
•Partner with individuals and organizations to help cover costs to ensure the Hall of Fame will exist in perpetuity.
Background: In April 2014, the Alexandria City School Board created the ACPS Athletic Hall of Fame in response to the many requests to honor former athletes, coaches and teams by renaming areas of ACPS buildings. The purpose of Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor the outstanding achievements of individual athletes, coaches, teams and friends of Alexandria City Public Schools who have contributed to the integrity, promotion, and growth of athletics at the high school level. Once a selection of nominees is determined each year and after School Board approval, an induction ceremony is held to honor the new inductees.
