Agenda Item Summary: The proposed calendars have the following key points:

• 183 student instructional days.
• The first day for students is September 6, 2016 for traditional calendar schools and August 4, 2016 for the modified calendar. The last day of school on both calendars is June 22, 2017.
• The two teacher work days at the start of the school year will not be flex days but will be determined by the Principal with input from school staff to determine what days best meet individual school needs.
• Veterans Day is a holiday.
• Elementary Conference Days have been reduced from 3 to 2 days to increase instructional continuity.
• The Wednesday before Thanksgiving remains a holiday
• The length of Winter Break returns to less than 2 weeks (8 days).
• The first 3 snow days will not be made-up. Additional make-up days, if needed, will be as follows:
Background: The draft 2016-2017 calendars presented to the School Board last year were used as the starting point for discussions with the Calendar Committee.
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends approval of the 2016-2017 calendars as presented.
