Agenda Item Summary: To provide the School Board with a summary of the summer programming offered in July and August of 2017.
Background: In July 2017, ACPS provided summer programming to 4,080 students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. This summer marked the third year of programming for 3rd through 8th grade students. The program provided project based learning with demonstration of mastery using multiple modalities and hands-on experiences that integrated aspects of writing, reading, science, social studies, physical education, the arts and world languages. ACPS offered the following programs to students:
• High School Programs, Online courses, Credit Recovery, Advanced Placement (AP) Boot Camp, New Courses
• Middle School Programs, Middle School Enrichment, Drama Camp, Algebra Boot Camp, Transition to Algebra, Band Camp, Young Scholars
• Elementary School Programs, Elementary School Enrichment, Young Scholars, Band Camp, Social Skills Classes
• English Language Learner Enrichment
• Extended School Year (ESY)
• Summer Language Academy
• Title 1 Primary Preparation Program
• Middle School Prep
• Kindergarten Prep
Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends continued summer learning opportunities that support student success.
