This proposal is for a one-year alignment of Samuel Tucker Elementary School’s academic calendar with the rest of ACPS to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on the school community. This calendar change prioritizes the health and safety of the Samuel Tucker community and allows Samuel Tucker to align with the ACPS 4.0 Enhanced Continuity of Learning Plan: Reimagining Schools.The administrative team at Samuel Tucker informed their staff and parent community of the proposal and gained stakeholder feedback.
The feedback from the Samuel Tucker staff and community reflects a 70% support rate for a one-year alignment with the traditional calendar for the 2020-2021 school year. This proposal is for the 2020-2021 academic year only. The 2021-2022 Modified Calendar for Samuel Tucker was approved by Board action at the May 29, 2020 meeting.

Background:

The modified calendar for Samuel Tucker Elementary School notes staff returning to work the last week of July with students returning on the first Thursday of August. To compare, the traditional ACPS calendar notes staff returning to work the last week of August with students returning after Labor Day.

Recommendation:
|
The Superintendent recommends that the School Board review the memo and attachments on the proposed calendar change for Samuel Tucker Elementary School for the 2020-2021 school year.
